Safeguarding

Child Protection

Purlwell Infant and Nursery School takes the welfare of children extremely seriously and follows legislative guidelines in its dealings with all aspects of safeguarding pupils.

The school has a Child Protection Policy in place which details the procedures to be followed in the case of a child protection incident.

All school staff have an important role to play in recognising and taking appropriate action in cases of suspected child abuse and all staff have had the appropriate training.

All staff within Purlwell Infant and Nursery School have been  instructed to report any suspicions to the Headteacher who is also the Designated Teacher with responsibility for Child Protection.

The Headteacher is required under the procedures to alert the Social Services Department. Parents may also seek advice/guidance from the Education Welfare Officer or contact the Social Services Department direct, if necessary.

If there are any issues about your child you wish to discuss, no matter how sensitive, please contact the Headteacher.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) with responsibility for Safeguarding at Purlwell I & N are:

Mrs S Gallivan - Deputy Headteacher (DSL)

Mrs S Nazam  - Headteacher (DSL)

Mrs A Houlker - School Business Manager (Deputy DSL)

Mrs J Shires - HLTA (Deputy DSL)

Mrs J McIvor - (Deputy DSL)

Operation Encompass

The school has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly between schools and West Yorkshire Police.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced, any domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, (DSL) known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been experienced a domestic abuse incident.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
